A church is not simply a group of people who believe the same gospel and who come together regularly in order to worship God. …Though creativity and innovation can play a secondary role, they should not be the principles which govern worship in the local church.. Think about it: Chrisitans are required to gather as churches. Therefore, when a church decides to implement a nonbiblical practice, it effectively requires Christian to approach God through that nonbiblical practice. In the Bible human inventions were again and again counted as idolatrous….People can creatively devise how to approach a mute God, but they must listen to a speaking God.

Mark Dever

The Church, xvii-xviii.
