Since I’ve brought Apollo to mind, I am of the mind to mention something: something wisemen say about him – this doesn’t concern questions of misfortune in the matter of Hyacinth’s murder or his mistreatment of Daphne – but rather the condemnation and order of exile from heaven for the Cyclopes’ death. He was sent to earth to share in human luck. Then he became a menial for Admetus in Thessalia and for Leadmon in Phrygia – in this he was not alone: Poisden was with him. They both made bricks and built the wall. And, they didn’t even receive their full wage, they say the pair are still owed 30 odd Trojan drachmae.
Now since once concerning Apollo I am called to mind
I am determined also other things to say
those things concerning him the wise of me they say
not as much concerning the questions he suffered bad luck nor the murder of Hyacinth
nor the of Daphen her mistreatment
but rather that condemnation for the of the Cyclopes death
and beings banish because of this from heaven
he was sent to earth to share in human fate
when since also he served as a menial in Thessalia for Admetus
and in Phrygia for Laomedon
in this he was indeed not alone
but with Poseidon
They both together making brick by anxiety and working the walls
A.make into bricks, “τὴν γῆν” Hdt.1.179; π. πλίνθους make bricks, LXXGe.11.3: abs., make bricks, Ar.Nu.1126, Ra.800, PCair.Zen.633.21,25 (iii B. C.), PLond.1.131.302 (i A. D.), Luc.Sacr.4:—Med., Th.2.78.
- build of brick, “τείχη” Id.4.67.
III. Pass. is variously expld. by Gramm. as to be changed into bricks, built up with bricks, tortured or enslaved, EM367.43, etc.; to be duped, Hsch., Suid.
- πλινθευομένη, ἡ, tax on brickmaking, POxy.502.44 (ii A. D.).
and neither was completed the reward brought from Phyrgia
but but it was it was owed to them more than 30
The imperfect, here, seems to imply the wage still has not been paid.
30 drachmas Troy
