The faith that a newly reborn sinner exercises in Christ immediately brings him into a state of justification. All his sins of every kind are pardoned in that instant. Christ, to whom he is now spiritually united, becomes his righteousness at once, thenceforth, and forever. God looks no more on the “filthy rags” of his unconverted state, but now sees him as “in Christ,” who is the Lord our Righteousness.
